I (don’t) Pity the Foo…

Soooo…I don’t believe in pity.

Self pity…pity of others…

Still a thing that I don’t quite get why people get sad?

Book coming out soon by the same author who wrote my favorite book about Fairy God Boyfriend.

It’s the book that made me laser focus on him as my actual prototype. Painted him as human and fallible. (There’s some author conjecture here and I don’t agree that there was ever a fall musically, but cannot discount that he did fall out of public consciousness due to various reasons like reminding people that he’s a regular Black man when a ton of fans preferred to believe he was mixed or appealing because he “wasn’t like other Black people” …or because people didn’t understand the whole creating incredible music and only being paid like 20% of the profits if that….or because people took issue with him owning his brand to the point of being careful about who he associated with which in turn led to people thinking he’s controlling, etc.)

Depending on how you view him, some people completely hate this book because it paints him in a “bad” light…and others find it very sad that he went through so much during this time.

For me, my reaction to the book was, YES. YES I ENJOYED THIS VERY MUCH. LOOK AT THIS FIGHT. LOOK AT HIM WORKING OUT HIS PRINCIPLES. LOOK AT HIM BLOODIED BUT UNBOWED. LOOK AT HIM BEING THE MASTER OF HIS FATE AND THE CAPTAIN OF HIS SOUL.

Doesn’t mean he didn’t make mistakes, and didn’t struggle or wasn’t sad himself, thing is that he OWNED his struggle (okay blame might have been placed all around by him) but he stood by his principles and did not give in, especially when it got REALLY tough. He never gave up. He tried different things. He tried LITERALLY EVERYTHING. He found out what worked from gaining actual experience points himself rather than relying on other people to fix his problems for him. He spent the better part of a decade experimenting and figuring out what worked. He committed. All in. Even when it did not benefit him publicly or brought ridicule.

(See pillar 3 authenticity).

I can’t be sad about or pity that. That makes me RESPECT him that much more and have a lot of pride in him. Not because he got through it, but because of the unapologetic way he WENT through it…and was still going through it as he was iterating through his career. The confidence born from experience like that is insurmountable.

When I see people going through stuff I’m not like “oh noooo poor thing.” I’m more like AND WHAT WILL YOU DO?! HOW WILL YOU TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR LIFE AND LEARN AND GROW. It’s not persecution, it’s  CHALLENGE.

Are you going to surrender or step up to it?
