All Power to the People
Putting out fires, without thinking about what actually causes the fires…what is the actual story? What is the catalyst for it all?
Another day, another scandal, another thing people are complaining about on twitter…just all day long hand wringing, clothes rending…it must be stressful, no?
The world is tough. People are upset. People are getting killed over really pointless things…perspective wise at least…as the people doing the killing feel they are doing so in a justified way.
The people who have hateful thoughts feel that their hatred is righteous.
They feel they have a responsibility to make the world work as they see fit.
That’s what makes this the toughest. You can yell at someone and tell them they’re wrong all day on twitter, but that’s not really going to do anything…because they do not believe they are wrong.
So I guess people just shout on twitter, and march, and raise awareness in echo chambers and that helps?
Are you blocking people who disagree with you? How does that help them see a different perspective?
Do you roll your eyes when Becky and Matt ask you to explain their privilege to them? Or your perspective of living as a person of color in America?
Do you start up a petition to demand that someone….else…does something you think should be done?
Like if you go to change.org, you’ll see that the majority of petitions there are that…people signing on to causes that can be done themselves if they just look up how to do it. Even when it comes to changing laws, yes it takes a while, and it takes politics, but you know you can get folks together well versed in constitutional law, draft up something, take it to your representative to get it sponsored, and have them carry it through…it’s literally what they are for. They REPRESENT you….they WORK FOR YOU…and if they don’t guess what you have the power to do…VOTE THEM OUT.
Also maybe I did or maybe I didn’t work on this site years ago, but the actual point of it is to get comments…from the general public…about federal regulations….as they are writing or revising them…
Or for the crazy stuff like the latest DA.CA rescinding…what existed before then (in 2012)? What is the actual reason for rescinding it, not the emotional one that’s easier to latch onto (guarantee it’s related to money somehow). What can be done to improve immigration processes? Lots of red tape inefficiencies there. Dig in…it’s YOUR government. Submit a proposal to organizations to fix their stuff. Govie contractor side, they need money for that support, but volunteer..pro-bono…for the good of everyone.
I say all this to say…you gotta do more than talk and complain…you have to DO something. You have to DO WORK. HARD WORK!
You only know what you know, figure out what it is you DO truly know based on a cross cut of information from different sources (not just sources you’re in agreement with). Do your research. Do a real inventory of yourself. Understand what your personal strengths are. Understand what your personal weaknesses are. Find people who believe in what you believe in. Get a multi-talented group who balances each other’s strengths/weaknesses and make stuff happen. Pay attention to those who do not believe in what you believe in…to plug your holes. They are your built in security team. Don’t dismiss them as “haters” If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, but make allowance of their doubting too. Your “enemies” are your best teachers. They will make you stronger if you take their challenges as lessons and ways to strengthen your methodologies.
DO something. DOOOO ET. You are powerful. You have talent.

MAYBE THE HAND THAT YOU’RE LOOKING FOR IS AT THE END OF YOUR ARM.
