YOU HEAR ME?!
Alright it’s been at least 12 hours.
I posted about my outfit, but I didn’t post about my experience.
I saw Harem Member Prince Rog.ers Nelson at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta last night.
And it was transcendent. Review of what went down in detail here.
Let me tell you, generally the people who are in the harem or are harem adjacent are so exalted because they are MASTERS or have the propensity to be MASTERS due to their really hard work, dedication, and tenacity in their respective fields. Mr. Nelson….is probably one of the greatest artists on the planet.
The concert was just him, a piano, and a microphone going through his catalog for about an hour and 20 minutes (there was a show not long after ours so he had to keep it short).
HE EVEN INSERTED SOME VINCE GUARADLI! I LOVE PEANUTS! I LOVE VINCE!
Let me tell you, as I tweeted yesterday, Mr. Nelson doing stripped down versions of his music makes you concentrate on his lyrics a lot more.
Always had love for them, and maybe I’m just more sensitive lately, but MAN did they resonate last night!
I love how he flipped back and forth between his more biblical songs to the others. And honestly, even his songs about love and secs could still be considered biblical (Song of Solomon anyone?).
Like…Mr. Nelson has in has past been quite…brazen with his…relationality, but even still, though it’s in your face, it somehow seems less vulgar in even his most in your face work. It seems sen.sual or even almost spiritual and very human…like he puts words to the human experience.
Adore for example is a beautiful song in general (and my favorite by him), but have you ever REALLY paid attention to the actual lyrics?

That is INTENSE and BEAUTIFUL and tear inducing and hopeful and unsure, and just….
AND WHEN HE PLAYS IT WITH JUST HIM ON A PIANO?!?! AND HE TAKES HIS TIME?!?!

And don’t make me talk about Do Me. All the same feels!
