Status Report
I’m going to dump a bunch of pictures here for now. Will debrief with words later!
Quick thoughts
- Again, never discount the value of e-friends. Group of 4, 1 I’d never met before. 1 I’ve only hung with once, the last I just met a few months ago. 99% of the interactions with them were online. Best time ever.
- Much more grounded appreciation for Fairy God Boyfriend. Much more context now between seeing where he grew up, the atmosphere of Minneapolis/Chanhassen and how and where he worked. He is a Black Midwestern boy through and through and I LOVE him EVEN MORE because of this.
- Cried for the first time re Prince at the tribute. Purple Rain started which generally gets an automatic eye roll from me because it’s SO overdone. Then was annoyed because it sounded like they got someone to sound just like him…(band was playing) then I realized the voice WAS him and totally lost it. It sounded like he was in the arena with us by the way it was mixed! It was jarring and perfect. Like he wrapped himself around us and said it was okay. Cried throughout and sang along. Also waterproof eye makeup WORKS guise!
- Closure in a way. More settled in Princing now. Instead of trying to hear everything ever ASAP, will just take things as they come. Noticed at the tribute our group was REACTING to the dj cuts like WHAAAAT??!?! They’re playing X Song?!?! While most of the crowd was like “what song is this”. (We went through the discography end to end on our private tumblr and also had shared good boots). I know he has a TON of stuff that didn’t actually get leaked, but will def slow up on listening to those…

Paisley Park merch! I FINALLY GOT MY TAMBOURINE. and it cost me 80 frickin dollars.
Me and Tyka! Prince’s only blood by both parents sister! We saw her sitting nearby and yoloed our way over for a pic. I do not turn down opportunities anymore. I learned my lesson from not trying to roll up in his Twitter DMs…

Overall great trip! Tomorrow we’re doing random landmarks around Minneapolis and of course Lake Minnetonka.
