It’s been a weekend!
I took a trip up to the A to seek career counseling from the alumni center, tie up some loose ends at Tech, and visit GAM (aka Grown A Man, aka what my boyfriend likes to be called).
It resulted in some progress. I focused my career on multimedia and got over 200 contacts from past Tech alumni in the industry to the leadership of top companies in Atlanta. So far, only one company (of about 20 I applied to) has looked at my website, but it’s only Monday…
In other news, I noticed some interesting things today…
GOING TO COLLEGE IS ENJOYABLE WHEN YOU’RE AN ALUMNA
I was cruising through campus and I couldn’t help but feel smug that peons are still slaves of Ma Tech. I used to say I’d never go back once I “got out” (that’s Tech’s slang for graduating) but it wasn’t so bad. It’s nice to know that you don’t have anything due or anything to study and just enjoy yourself while laughing and pointing at others.
Those freshmen though are a hoot and a holler…pulling out their maps and such…they have no idea what they’re about to go through poor things…
CAUCASION PERSUASION LADY LOOKS SCARY
I saw a lady at Steak and Shake that had skin like leather. Though she must have been maybe 40, she looked 60+ because her skin was so red and wrinkled. I mean, she must have LIVED in the sun when she was young and nubile!
I may be black and not as prone to that kind of thing, but she inspired me to get some sun block IMMEDIATELY!
THE PO PO IS OUT TO GET ME PEOPLE
Driving back from Atlanta there is one city that’s terrible when it comes to speed traps, Columbus. I tell ya, you’d think it wouldn’t be so as that city isn’t a 4 horse town, but they practically had a BARACADE set up!
Now I knew about it since they got me when I came through a couple of weeks ago. This time, as I approached the city, I slowed down to the speed limit and let all my unsuspecting smokey bait fly by. When I got to the trap, every single one, I’m talking 5 cars consecutively, were pulled over by police on motorcycles, in cars, shoot even riding bikes! (Okay well maybe not that last one… but it was ridiculous…I wasn’t exaggerating when I said every one of them got pulled over though…it was a shish kabob of cars and po po let me tell you!)
I guess they were trying to get people to slow down since there was some construction up ahead but still, have some compassion!
