J-U-S-T F-O-R M-E!

When I was about 4 or 5 years old, my mother introduced the “perm” to my hair. And when I say “perm” I of course mean “relaxer.” We started out on a product most of you know of called Just For Me.

Side Note: Remember that Whitney Houston video “I’m every woman”? It had all the little Just For Me girls in it. I remember, I’m DEFINTELY cute enough to be a just for ME girl…

Anyway, I’ve since moved on to other relaxer brands and I’m currently a religious Olive Oil product user.

(Your hair pretty much looks like that too…depending on thickness of course…)

Now before you all are all, “KANISA! YOU RELAX YOUR OWN HAIR?!?!” Consider this:

College Tuition : $5,000
Food Budget per week for someone sans kitchen or meal plan : $70
Price of Relaxer in Atlanta : $60 – 80 per month or so

OR

Price of Kit from CVS : $8
. . .

That may not seem like a lot of expenses, but on a chump change part time job salary, it’s enough.

PLUS : Note studies have concluded that salon perms and relaxers do not necessarily perform better than the over-the-counter brands. Also, salon brands are not necessarily safer either.

SO THERE!

Back to what I was saying though…

It was becoming a dire situation in the head area. I had about an inch of new growth since last time and I’m trying to avoid flat irons as much as possible, so I thought it would be a good time to slap those chemicals in my hair.

Nothing tragic happened, in fact, my hair smells sweet for some reason and is silky smooth.

SO the moral to this rambling story? Buy Olive Oil products.

They smell good.

In other news…

Did you hear about the Vatican making the 10 Commandments of Driving? I kid you not. Check it out:

1. You shall not kill.
2. The road shall be for you a means of communion between people and not of mortal harm.
3. Courtesy, uprightness and prudence will help you deal with unforeseen events.
4. Be charitable and help your neighbor in need, especially victims of accidents.
5. Cars shall not be for you an expression of power and domination, and an occasion of sin.
6. Charitably convince the young and not so young not to drive when they are not in a fitting condition to do so.
7. Support the families of accident victims.
8. Bring guilty motorists and their victims together, at the appropriate time, so that they can undergo the liberating experience of forgiveness.
9. On the road, protect the more vulnerable party.
10. Feel responsible toward others.

All good rules, but really? “10 COMMANDMENTS”?!?!

See… my mother’s family is traditionally Catholic, but things like this are why I will probably always be a Protestant. It’s not against the rules to have relations for no reason, we get to speak directly to God, and we don’t have this kind of pomp and circumstance.

I mean…isn’t that a little over the top?!
