College fo free! Kind of…

So I kept hearing about Coursera  and finally got around to looking at it today.

A collection of top ranked universities are putting some courses up for people to check out fo free! They’re 5-7 week sessions where you go through a topic, have homework, have quizzes, and receive a “statement of accomplishment” if you “pass”.

I signed up for so many…probably too many, lol…

Here’s my line up :

  • Software Engineering for SaaS (Software as a Service) – Now – UC Berkeley
  • Introduction to Logic – September 2012 – Stanford University
  • Human-Computer Interaction – September 2012 – Stanford University
  • Probabilistic Graphical Models – September 2012 – Stanford University
  • Think Again: How to Reason and Argue – November 2012 – Duke University
  • Programming Languages – January 2013 – University of Washington
  • Introductory Human Physiology – January 2013 – Duke University
  • Neuroethics – January 2013 – University of Pennsylvania
  • Artificial Intelligence Planning – January 2013 – University of Edinburgh
  • Introduction to Philosophy – January 2013 – University of Edinburgh
  • A Beginner’s Guide to Irrational Behavior – March 2013 – Duke University
  • How Things Work – TBD – University of Virginia
  • Learn to Program: Crafting Quality Code – TBD – University of Toronto
  • Basic Behavioral Neurology – TBD – University of Pennsylvania

First homework is due Monday!

Oh just kidding. I just started today…first homework was due yesterday.

I’ll just sit in this one and do the next round for real.

This looks great! I used to audit/watch Open University courses on television in the morning before I went for school.

That’s a demanding course load. (You have a spare 60 hours a week lying around . . . ?) I might sign up for a course or two. I hope the prerequisites are not too demanding.

Well looks like September and January will be tough, but other than that they’re spread out. I might filter those two months though…

YEEEESSSSS! Thanks for introducing me to this concept. I’ve been wanting to go back to school (without *really* going back) for a while now. Definitely signing up and encouraging others to do the same.

I know right! I was like I really just want to learn stuff…not really do all the extra going to school things…
