Being an adult is mostly lame…
I tell ya, the more you know…
So now on day 6 of the migraine, but it’s manageable. It’s mostly just annoying now more than debilitating.
This week I have discovered yet another reason to be annoyed by the American healthcare system.
1. The ACA was a good idea in theory, but not in execution. It’s like “yay everyone gets health insurance” but it’s more like “ohhh everyone is required to get health insurance or they will be fined….and also many that do have it will have dramatically increased deductibles so hope you don’t get sick because that first bill will be a doozy”. (My insurance doesn’t pay for anything until I hit $2000…up from $250 pre ACA. Real life application…my ER visit via ambulance when I had chest wall pain in Virginia was totally free. The actual bill before insurance paid? $13k.)
2. Yay pre-existing conditions are covered and so is preventive care! This is true. Free “woman’s wellness” check ups and physicals. BC is free, but the “follow up” appointment they schedule isn’t. Physicals are free, but follow up care isn’t. Basically, again, if something actually happens, sucks to be you because it’ll mostly come out of pocket…yours.
3. Yay everyone has health insurance and preventive care is free…which means no one can find doctors because everyone has health insurance and preventive care is free!
My current problem. I looked up the doctors my sister recommended and non of them are taking new patients until April.
TOO LATE EVERYONE! I DIED BECAUSE I DIDN’T FIND OUT WHAT WAS CAUSING MY MIGRAINES IN TIME AND THE ER DOCTORS I WENT TO JUST GAVE ME PAIN DRUGS!
This is about to get progressively worse too. Sister says insurance companies take forever to reimburse so people are only working with certain providers to make sure they get their money quickly.
THE AMERICAN HEALTHCARE INFRASTRUCTURE ISN’T HERE FOR ACA YA’LL! GET THAT FIXED FIRST BEFORE PUTTING MANDATES IN PLACE!

IF YOU DON’T HAVE A PRIMARY CARE PHYSICIAN, GET ONE BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE! FOR REAL YOUR ONLY OPTIONS FOR CARE WILL BE THE EMERGENCY ROOM IF YOU’RE NOT AN ESTABLISHED PATIENT!
