I Am Absolutely in LOVE!
It is almost 2 in the morning but I just have to say debrief these emotions right quick.
I have been absolutely captivated for the last couple of hours…
A few months ago, I got this book, Plum Bum by Jessie Redmon Fauset, a Harlem renaissance writer. I fell in love with Nella Larsen and have made it a point to read female Harlem writers ever since.
THIS book…I’d read the first 50 pages or so and it had been sitting on my nightstand unread for AT LEAST a month. I’d gotten a few other books in the meantime and almost started to read them, but then I was like “NO! I’m going to finish what I started first!”
I picked Plum Bun back up at around 9 PM tonite and haven’t put it down since.
I finished it just now…tell me why I CRIED with joy for at least ten minutes after reading this book. It was SO GOOD! I am absolutely IN LOVE right now!
I am…I don’t even know…
It’s like when reading you really experience every emotion the character feels…oh it’s been a rollercoaster these last couple of hours! I’ve been frustrated, excited, angry, heartbroken, hopeful, in love, in despair, and finally ecstatically happy all in the span of four hours!
I’m sure my neighbors are DONE with me and my “don’t do it girl!!!”, “you ain’t NO good”, and high pitched squeals of delight…I can’t help it though!
Ohhh this book!!!!

Forget the ghetto fiction “writers” of today…this Harlem Renaissance stuff is THE BUSINESS!
