The Dilemma of April 6. 2006.
Georgia Tech is trying to do some big things.
Every spring they do a thing called “Sting Break.” For the uninformed, it’s a festival that the school hosts in an attempt to help us students not to be so sad about life. During the day, they give out free food and t-shirts and things and at night there’s a free concert.
Last year was Ludacris.
The year before, Bubba Sparxxx.
I knew one of these years they’d get them, or at least one of them. Sad thing is though that Sting Break is always on the same day as the Tower Awards (the awards program honoring minority students hosted by the Office of Minority Education and Development). It’s an honor to be invited as it is a very classy and significant event. People get trophies…it’s kind of a big deal.
The concert thing hasn’t been much of a big deal in the past as they never really had artists that black people would see anyway, but the past couple of years, or at least the past two years have been quite troublesome for us. What’s more important, 2 minutes of fame as you receive your award in front of friends, family, and corporate sponsors, or seeing a popular artist that people would pay a good sum of money for for little or no money?
What to do, what to do…
