Where to even begin?
A historical day if you’re a computer nerd.
So I’m at work. Working. Putting together a mockup for a meeting tomorrow afternoon.
Working off my govie machine with my other laptop (on a public network) off to the side so I can keep an eye on social networks and messages from Frog.
Glanced over at the Twit.ter topics…noticed “Mega.upload”.
Got a bad feeling.
“Please don’t say they got got…” I thought, as I clicked on the topic, “they host the content for my favorite hook up site!”
Mega.upload got got.
4 people arrested. 3 on the run.
Got got for facilitating copyright infringement as their users upload tons of stuff to their sites for streaming and downloading…one day after the big protest across the internet against getting people got for such things,
The feds were like, “oh that was cute guise! Meanwhile we’re gonna go ahead and be like ‘IN YOUR FACE!””
Oh boy…
Seems that people don’t really care as Mega.Upload was kind of a nerd thing. But for those who don’t know, YouT.ube could EASILY be taken out on the same grounds. Tons of copies of songs, movies, tv shows, etc that aren’t actually distributed by their copyright owners, but by randoms that uploaded things to their accounts.
I almost hope YouTube will get got so people can really be up in arms.
Or even if they start going after regular people…because technically, if you say link to or embed a video of a song or clip from a show from youtube (or any host), and it wasn’t directly released to you from the copyright owner, you too can get got.
Ask Hana Besh.ara she knows (though she did this on a larger scale). She’s currently serving time and owes the MP.AA over 200K.
I really feel like there’s a war going on, and that was “the shot that was heard round the world” as Mega.Video/Mega.Upload is one of the biggest file sharing websites in the world.
Anonymo.us declared war shortly after the announcement, taking down the websites for RIA.A, M.PAA, Department of Jus.tice, Univ.ersal M.usic, and I’m sure more are to come.
I kinda wish they would do more than DD.os people though (basically run programs that flood sites with traffic and take them down).
They really have been playing with people so far.
Only a matter of time before they start being for real….
