I blame the internet
As much as computers are pretty much extensions of my body, I do recognize that they are such a danger to manners and decorum, among other things.
They give people the opportunity to hide behind a persona they can easily create…and thus creates a false sense of what’s “normal”.
That “new normal” is then extended out into real space, and you get conversations, thoughts, and behavior that used to happen in private, or in appropriate circles, out for everyone to see.
Examples :
People broadcasting their sexual preferences…when before just promiscuous people did that.
Why does EVERYONE need to know that? Why not just the people who are privileged enough to engage you in that way or even people in your close circle who could advise you about such things? For chicks, keep it in your girlfriend circle…or between you and your doctor…or even better, between you and the person you’re being sexual with. For dudes, again keep it to your dude circle/locker room/frat debrief/your chick/etc. The mixed company conversations on this topic IGG me. Really what purpose does it serve other than telling people your personal business? How is that advantageous? Congrats, now random people know what you’re like in bed, or even worse, know that you LIE about what you’re like in bed….
People airing out why their ex wasn’t all that/how much they miss their ex/etc for everyone (or really just their ex) to see…
Talked about this tons of times before. Talk to someone who cares, and I don’t intend that in a mean way, I mean seriously…talk to someone who cares about you and will help you process that. Most other people will use it against you, especially that ex, or potentials who get scared off by emos, OR predators who prey on vulnerable people.
People talking about work or organizational issues in an obvious way that people can trace back to their jobs and specific people…
People get fired over this. It’s almost another form of the previous example as well. If you don’t like your job, quit…or talk to someone who will help you put things in perspective. Just complaining isn’t going to help the situation get better….and will label you as “one of those”…
Lack of discretion in all these situations. That’s really the issue.
If you don’t want people in your business, don’t lay out your business for people to see.
Definitely unfollowed a few people today after their commentary on their appreciation of a certain aspect of female private parts. Keep that disgusting stuff in the locker room.
Also CANNOT with the Greek sites that base their entire relevance on ridiculing each other…or even the self-congratulatory ones where they pat each other on the back for meeting fools on their levels…
