Wax Poetics
Don’t know if I mentioned this magazine before. Came across it at a Neo Soul music store in Little Five Points Atlanta.
It’s a quarterly magazine that explores different kinds of soul/hip hop/R&B music. Subscribed right away. Radio music sucks and need new ways to discover stuff.
The first issue I got was a Prince feature so you know I was sold…
Really in depth articles about whatever the feature is. Learned a lot about Prince and there were some really interesting accounts about what it was like to work with him. I read at my leisure and just finished the other day…when I got the next issue
Not actually a hip hop head. But I did totally buy some albums because of this issue. Not of Nas (who is interesting by the way) but this guy Robert Glasper. Totally my style…
I’m not good at catching words. Not an auditory learner at all. Will have to listen a few times to really hear and appreciate what people are saying.
I also liked this guy :
Pretty easy to guess what music I would like…lol…
Lots of artists to check out from this issue. Might be a minute…
Check it out though! Wax Poetics is a great serial!
Oh and while we’re talking music, DJ Jazzy Jeff x Mick Boogie’s Summertime III mixtape is out! Intro by the Fresh Prince himself!
ETA : Ooo just came across an article about my cousin’s new project! Shabazz Places (Ishmael Butler of Digable Planets). Big time!
