Make the Music of your Mouth

OPENING PANDORA’S BOX

So I was listening to Pandora today. ..

What?

You’ve never heard of Pandora?!

Well child, let me tell you about it!

Pandora is one of the biggest databases of music online. It has a sophisticated algorithm that links similar songs for really intuitive radio stations…

Well…

Let me explain that in plain English.

To make a station, you would type in either an artist or a song that you like. Pandora will take that song and find similar songs to play on your personalized radio station. It does a pretty good job, and it’s a great way to discover new music.

My current stations are (in no particular order):

Michael McDonald
Marvin Gaye
Lionel Richie
Rhianna (I was trying to find a reason to like her music…haven’t yet. She’s a pretty girl though)
Kenny G
Earl Klugh
Richard Marx
Donna Lewis
The Jazzmasters
Mary J Blige
Frank McComb
Maxwell
Debarge

Good stuff.

While I’m talking about music, I’d like to point out my current favorite song.

All the Way Round By Mr. Gaye

If you have only listened to the mainstream Mr. Gaye Songs, you are missing out on life. This song is my favorite on his I Want You album. Actually that whole I Want You album is pretty great. My only gripe about it is all the heavy breathing and such, but the music itself is good.

GROWN PEOPLE MUSIC PLAYER

I made a couple of checks off my list of “grown people purchases” list. I found a Bose store and went to see about some music systems. They didn’t have too much of a selection as I was looking for strictly music systems and not home theatres. (I’m giving up cable…it’s not worth it to pay 80 bucks a month for channels I don’t even watch.) It was between a Wave Music System (@ $600 including the disc changer) and the Acoustic Wave Music System (@ $1000). I ended up buying the cheaper one as I can always upgrade later on…plus I still live in an apartment complex. I can’t even listen to the less expensive one at the recommended volume because my neighbors would have me carried away.

I like it though. It really does have the rich sound quality the commercials say. I just read and listened to it all weekend and didn’t even glance at the TV. Now I just need a record player to add to it and I’ll be set in that area.

I also bought a desk, bookshelves, and a cabinet for my office. Previously, my “desk” was made up of a box and the floor. I figure it might be time to grow up a bit…not in college anymore.

That reminds me…I need to get a chair…

WEEKEND AVENTURE…

Yeeeaaahh….it was cold this weekend so I didn’t go anywhere. I suppose my “adventure” was to Maryland on Friday to a Team meeting. (Well actually, I’m not sure you could consider it a meeting per say…it was actually just everyone going to Dave & Busters and charging it to the company…)

It was hooked on to a mall though. I ended up going to a nearby mall for the aforementioned music system…and found a whole bunch of stores with clothes that fit me.

Not sure if it’s worth going 45 minutes to get there though.
