Read The Martian this weekend.
I always wondered why Aerospace Engineering and N.ASA an nem had such a huge reputation for having super smart people…or at least, why their standards for performance and intelligence is so much higher than any other professional industry.
Realizing that mistakes when working with multi-million dollar screws are very costly, there are also systems that are less costly but still have huge impacts.
Like why isn’t that standard present when working with financial, telecommunications, electronics, or infrastructure systems?
At the end of the day, they are all supported by software and hardware engineers with the exact same skills so…

I did enjoy the book though. Can’t wait for the movie!
And of course the Rich Purnell character, portrayed by Mr. G, is in alignment with past Bae patterns…socially awkward genius.

In other news…
Saw Do.pe!
It didn’t quite live up to my really high expectations, but I mostly enjoyed it.
Saw that NPR posted an article about the movie. The fb comment section was full of gems :
“Is this the Black version of Dumb and Dumber?”
“And there could not be a more appropriate title for the film: “DOPE” Definition of “dope” – a stupid or annoying person.”
“IGNORANCE, Don’t even waste your time!”
“Saw this at Sundance–I hope they edited it before releasing it in theaters. It had potential but wasn’t totally cohesive, and there was a very unnecessary lecture for the viewers at the end that I hope they cut.”
(The lecture at the end was about how smart kids exist in the inner city, how black and hood culture are different, and the complexity of being a blerd.)
Ignorance indeed…and also privilege…
While the movie did have a lot going on (I feel like it took too long to get to the main conflict), the messages of the movie were really well communicated and ones I could relate to as a fellow blerd. Here’s a quick featurette. Promise I was not at all expecting the name that comes up at 1:19…but again goes to show how much of my life it speaks to, lol… :
Would still say to support though, especially if you’re a fan of The Wood…
