Girl Power
For some reason, I feel like the 90’s were more about girl power than any other time I’ve lived in. (In my expansive decades of living…lol…)
Spice girls, Queen Latifah, even Lil Kim…
Clothing brands like Girl’s Dominate ( I had this t-shirt…the front : “My mother said I should be more polite around boys” the back :”Now I say ‘pardon me’ before I leave them in the dust”
Even cartoon characters like the Chippettes!
Everywhere you looked, female empowerment!
Don’t know how the children of that time kind let that fall by the wayside…letting dudes and their whims run their lives…
I digress…
I was taking a journey down nostalgia lane listening to music from The Chipmunk Adventure movie and came across this song :

When I was the target audience for this, I generally got that the Chippettes were trying to prove they were as good as the Chipmunks…and that they really were comparable in talent. I of course cheered for them to win as well..and was salty that generally the Chippettes weren’t as successful as the Chipmunks.
Interesting that boys don’t really think about competing with girls ever…but girls always have that “I need to be as good as boys” idea hanging around…just like the song where the Chippettes noticed they were “living in a man’s world” and the Chipmunks stated outright “what we have is what we will be given.”
Interesting idea to embed so early…
