Geekend Part II : Mo.moCon

(Part I was seeing the new X.men movie…which was awesome btw).

Yeah the con was pretty cool! Basically like a mini Dragon.con.

Some of the smaller panels left some things to be desired (have some visuals or something pepo! No one really wants to hear you talk for an hour about your opinions…)

But the bigger ones were cool!

A couple of call outs :

Black Scifi, Fantasy, Manga & Anime

This is one that would have benefited from mixed media in their presentation. It was mostly one guy talking…and another person that you couldn’t really hear.

New thing I learned about though was “Steamfunk”

Which is essentially Black Steampunk.

The main person noted this anthology :

A witch, more machine than human, judges the character of the wicked and hands out justice in a ravaged Chicago. John Henry wields his mighty hammers in a war against machines and the undead. Frederick Douglass and Harriet Tubman rule a country of freed slaves that rivals – and often bests – England and France in power and technology. You will find all this – and much more – between the pages of Steamfunk, an anthology of incredible stories by some of today’s greatest authors of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Steamfunk – African and African American-inspired Steampunk.

Very cool! I think I might check it out!

Crunchy.roll Industry

Went to this one next. Crunchyroll was probably the first app/website besides the mains (Hulu and Netflix) that I looked for things to watch. They’re 100% legit now and have a bunch of simulcasts ready to go for anime.

They’re also doing Korean Dramas over at kdrama.com and manga simulpubs on their main site.

I got this t-shirt too! Fo free!

Walkbout

Did a walkabout to kill some time. Walked through the vendors and artist galleries…halfway looking for other Assassins since I had my Aveline costume on. Found some!

Eddie bowed to me while I was waiting for a panel to start. He had a flag with our crest on it. I looked at him for a while first as his companions argued about something. They walked away and I was like, “man I really want a picture with that flag though…and his costume was cool…” ran after them and attempted a picture.

Mostly a fail since the flag wasn’t in it and I look wayward, but oh well…

Saw some other cool stuff…Casey Jones from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

More Assassins. We traded info to take a group picture later

Recess Retrospective

Popped by this panel for some nostalgia…and Andrew Lawrence and Ashley Johnson were there!

Andrew Lawrence…hate to refer to him this way because I’m the youngest too…but he’s Joey and Matthew’s little bro. Here they are on a Brotherly Love promo pic.

Andy was TJ on Recess.

Ashley Johnson is probably best known for her role as Chrissy on Growing Pains. She’s the little girl :

She’s also Gretchen on Recess

Viz Animation Panel

And now the main event (for me)!

Word from the herd is that most of the good Moonie news is coming first part of July from the Anime Expo convention in LA. They have a full Moonie day…free stuff…limited edition coins…

They’re announcing the English Cast and showing the first trailer for the Dub too. That’s the place to be if you can get out there!

Also full disclosure, I teared up twice during this panel. Ranma ½ and Sailor Moon were pretty much my imaginary BFF’s in middle school…almost surreal to see them being re-released now.

They talked about the new Ranma blueray (that I just bought this week)….pretty cool stuff!

Had to skip out on the question part early because… (really wanted one of those Sailor Moon art cards too!)

Assassin Meet Up

…it was time to meet up with my crew!

Another tragic pic of me, but we all look like action figures! A bunch of Altiars and me, Aveline!

Taking out a Templar Furry

We found an Ezio!

Blending to be inconspicuous (it’s a gamer thing)

In the game, this is actually done with scholars and not other assassins, lol. We would have had high notoriety if this was for real…

We were all dying of heat overload btw…all of us were wearing tons of fabric. Our namesakes were troopers man because all of us were in hot places during the times our characters were running around…

But yeah! Pretty cool time!

Geeks unite!

You have the best costume by far.

Without the context, it could be misconstrued that you’ve infiltrated the KKK.
