Life is but a quick succession of busy nothings…

Toooo much happening at the moment. I’ll keep it short :

  • Started watching Revenge after hearing so  much about it. I remember watching the pilot, but I fell asleep to it (doesn’t take much). I tried again this weekend though and it was actually really good! I’m on episode 11 of 18. Thanks Hulu Plus!
  • Work is finally slowing down. We have a release in about 2 weeks but my part is done. Enjoying this “time off” before it ramps up again.
  • Managerial duties are always exciting…I’ll just say…uneasy lies the head the wears the crown.
  • Dr. Sister and Mommies are coming for Mother’s Day weekend. I figured my gifts would be a spa day for them. Might be tricky though since middle sister is coming too and it’s not her holiday…she’s the type to have an attitude for not being paid for too…maybe we can all go to the theater with steak and I can pay for that…
  • Kiiiinda side eyeing the whole grad chapter thing. The perils of joining a large one. They’ve had my money since February, but I haven’t gotten any correspondence from them. Thinking of switching back to General membership and shopping around for a chapter that’s a little more organized. I’d only picked that one because they oversee my undergrad chapter. Kiiiinda don’t appreciate how they treat new members…but I guess it’s hard to keep up when you have like 400 of them. I bet their records are in an excel sheet somewhere rather than a database that is actually used by a system. Normally I’d jump in and fix all their IT stuff, especially since they insist on paying some random dude 2500 bucks to design a wordpress site for them (WHY?!)…I offered to do it for free. Gave them my name and number, twice. No one contacted me…I need  people to meet me halfway at least…
  • Also why did I find out about our next event (a party) on Facebook…from being invited by a Que who was co-hosting it with us? Nice…
  • Collecting articles about responsive design. Meant to start on my first HTML 5 project, but I spent the weekend sleeping and derping around instead. I needed some time to recover from the previous weekend of birthday happenings and Frog visit. Did I mention he got me a Fabio Napoleoni? Remember when I talked about him a while back?

“Who Would I Be Without You”

You can’t tell from this picture, but the colors are extremely vivid. I’m pretty sure staring at it is akin to taking some drug that calms your brain and stuff. Couldn’t take my eyes off it. I asked Frog to turn it around because if it’s in your field of vision, you can’t help but stare.

So yeah that’s pretty much all that’s going on that I can talk about. Interesting times! Happy Birthday to my fellow Taureans!

To me from me

I come to you from one of these!

I’ve been playing with the idea of getting a tablet, but hadn’t decided which one….besides it not being an ianything. I’ve decided that this shall be Chip Poindexter VI’s little sister, Erica. Together with her big brother and and play cousin of the Droid X variety, they will help me delve into the world of responsive design for Android (or HTML 5 friendly) platforms.

Welcome Erica! (AKA an Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime)

They usually don’t do well at tribute episodes, but this was a nice cover.

While we’re at it, shout out to Alex from Glee Project for his debut!

What I was up to this weekend…

Made this for my undergrad chapter.

They haven’t had an active website since I graduated. One of the neos reached out to me about helping them get it up again a few months ago, but she was still working on content.

Did a little pestering so they could have something up by their Charter week, and this was the result. WordPress of course (I refuse to be a webmaster).

Wanted to do a portfolio template for a while, but never had the content to support it.

Also ex-ing that plan to design templates for people to just download…I don’t have the patience for designing public websites anymore for chump change. Too much to consider (resolutions, mobile, tablet, browser type, browser version, having 532 toolbars that makes the actual content window like 600px high, etc.)

Realized I don’t care about usability for my own stuff since I obsess about it at work all day…and it’s even more important to consider that on sites like this, no telling who the audience is.

Unconventional websites are cool, but only if the audience is expecting it. Had to make accommodations for a broader audience (the menu that comes up when you first visit used to show the pages only when mousing over the logo, the images on the top of each page were meant to just show a snippet before but now expand, lowered the resolution of all the pictures to 1000px wide or less, the image gallery fails to javascript if flash isn’t available, etc.)

I also am normally against autoplaying music on sites, but I think it’s okay for presentation sites like these.

When they first publicized the site, 70% of the hits were from smart phones. Fascinating! It’s why I changed the menu interaction…and am considering making a mobile version…

Yeah…for web design requests though, please go to themeforest.com. They have cheap, but unique templates that can be used by web design newbs. Pretty sure they have some portfolio ones like mine too.

Always consider your content though. I’d say have all of it written and all your images collected before even thinking about how it should look.

Midweek Update

»Posted by on Apr 11, 2012 in Uncategorized | 4 comments

We’re just going to do some twitter re-caps because my life…

Can’t they just hire like, Tina Fey to be a writer on Glee? #GLEE

Because it’s seriously become really canned and cliché. I’m not sure why I haven’t missed an episode…

T-10 days until Frog is delivered to my door.

He’s coming for my birthday Aprill 22. It’s funny, I’m starting not to mind that people think I’m much younger than I am. Bout to be 27…

He looks like he doesn’t use turning signals.

You know the types…pretty self explanatory, right?

I mean is it really necessary? I feel like these are all cheap shots. All these shows have graphic se.x and nu.dity…

Talking about Game of Porn.s. Like seriously, I feel uncomfortable that I recommended that show to my parents…

Seeing a movie set in 2035 and realizing you’ll be the 50 year old grandma character… #irobot

For real! W.ill Smith’s character was talking to his mom…and she had some gray hair…the glasses. I did the calculations and was like “waaaaiiit…”

Had some great great great aunts that were about this life…

Was watching Feast of All Saints for the first time. I had some great, great, aunts who were in the Plaçage system, meaning they were the Creole mistresses of wealthy white men in New Orleans. Love reading about the situations of middle and upper class Black people in the 18th and 19th centuries.

That awkward moment when you go to someone’s birthday party but can’t find where they are because you only know the host…First place hoes!

I went to my line sister’s birthday party at an indoor go kart place. It was awkward for the most part as I really only knew her, and if you’ve ever met me, you know how shy I am in real life. It turned out to be kinda fun though! I had the best lap time out of everyone, dudes too! First place out of 10 people!

I said “pardon me” before I left them in the dust.

Girls Dominate.

I’ve never seen the Disney dudes looking like this o_O http://davidkawena.deviantart.com/gallery/89102 (NSFW)

I really wasn’t ready… like at all. The facebook ones were worse

No! He’s taking Sasha back! He says there’s a knock! I don’t want to drive the jalopy around anymore! Boooooo!

50% of the past week’s stress was related to po Sasha. The new system is to drive halfway home and swap her for the jalopy so Daddy can fix her. (3 hours round trip) This has happened 3 times since last Friday. They brought her up after the towing incident from a while back…turned out to be a broken timing belt that caused dented pistons among other things. Had to take her engine apart and replace 600 bucks worth of stuff (would have been 1600 if professionally done). While they were up here Friday, Daddy noticed a knock and decided to take her back home. Did some adjustments and met me halfway Saturday afternoon. Drove pretty well…went to work Monday. Noticed I had to keep my foot on the accelerator or else the car would shut off while idling…but it eventually “warmed up” so I wouldn’t have to. Charged it to being more cold than usual that morning. Ready to head home…wouldn’t stay running while idle no matter how long I kept up the rpm’s. Drove straight from work with a prayer down to meet my Dad at the swap spot (had the exact same symptoms with the po bug back in college, though the cause was different). He raised the idle rpm and added some bearings for a squeaky belt.

Making the swap again this weekend hopefully the fix will hold me for a few months at least.
