Obsession of the Moment : Dr.eam Hig.h
Was looking for a new “Marathon of the Moment.” Happened across this on N.etflix. I didn’t realize they started carrying Korean shows! I tried a few once, but couldn’t get into them. I think it’s because I’m usually doing 332 things while watching Hulu/Netf.lix so subtilted things aren’t feasible. This time though, I’d had a late nap Sunday night and so needed to kill time while I waited to fall asleep.
Tell me why I was up until like 3 AM watching this?
It’s a neat show!
The kids are students at a performing arts school with a tradition to turn out pop stars. I was easily hooked due to idolization of Mr. Jackson and Mr. Gaye by characters in the earlier episodes, but it was also interesting how they generally seem to idolize a lot of Black culture icons :
Hip Hop fashion/Break Dancing is pretty big among the students.
There’s a guy that has the “Neyo” thing going on…he wears his hat the same way and dances to his music
Obvious MJ style in a lot of their dancing (and he’s referenced in a good bit of the episodes in name or in picture)
Their singing style is very soul/R&B oriented even in their native language
Their auditions were really neat! One girl sang You’re Gonna Love Me
I suppose Gershwin doesn’t entirely count, but they did a neat mesh of Summertime and a modern K-pop song that was really nice.
But yeah! Totally enjoying season 1! I’m starting earlier tonight so I won’t be up all night, but this is definitely worth checking out if you like this type of stuff!
Also, Samdong is the sweetest boy ever made.
Netflix <– Prefer this one as the tags at the end are different. One has a dance break for Mc Hammer’s Too Legit to Quit!
BEST. SHOW. EVER!!!
